from Toronto:
Take the Queen Elizabeth Way to Niagara. Just past St. Catharines and the Garden City Skyway, which crosses over the Welland Canal, there are two routes to Niagara-on-the-Lake. The first route is scenic, but not complex. The second route is slightly shorter, but requires many turns and stop signs/lights. Whatever you do, ignore MapQuest.
Here are the two routes:
  1. About two miles past the Garden City Skyway, keep in the left lane and take Highway 405 east. Exit just before the Queenston-Lewiston bridge (Stanley Ave.) and keep to the left. Then follow Portage Road to Brock's monument. At the roundabout at Brock's monument, take the scenic Niagara Parkway north along the Niagara River to Niagara-on-the-Lake, turning right on Wellington Street at the Shaw Festival Theatre. Or,
  2. Just past the Garden City Skyway, look for the sign on the QEW that says "Hwy 55 Niagara Stone Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake". That is exit 38B. Follow the signs to Highway 55. At the lights on York Road, turn left, then turn right at Airport Road and proceed to Highway 55. Turn right on Hwy 55 and proceed through the village of Virgil and ultimately to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Hwy 55 turns into Mississauga Street. At the golf course, turn right on Queen Street and follow it all the way through the downtown area, past the Prince of Wales Hotel to the Shaw Festival Theatre. Turn left on Wellington.
Look for the yellow house with the blue door on the corner of Byron St. and Wellington St.

from Buffalo:
Take 190 north to the Queenston-Lewiston bridge. When you have passed through customs and the toll booth, exit immediately to the right. If that exit is closed (it's under construction), take the 405 straight ahead to Stanley Ave exit and double back to Brock's monument at Queenston Heights. Follow the scenic Niagara Parkway north along the Niagara River to Niagara-on-the-Lake. At the Shaw Festival Theatre, turn right on Wellington Street. Look for the yellow house with the blue door on the corner of Byron St. and Wellington St.
